Practitioner’s note

Named for the two lanes proceeding in opposing directions and occasionally swapping signage. The position rewards patience, a steady cruising speed, and the willingness to pull over at any rest stop without explanation. Detours are not penalized.

Common mistakes

Asking the other lane for directions.
Cruise control.
Treating the dotted line as a suggestion in both senses simultaneously.
