Practitioner’s note
Catalogued in 1812 under the name *La Verticale Ordinaire*, the Standing Ovation gained its current title in the late twentieth century when a participant, asked afterward to assess the experience, was reported to have simply applauded politely. The position is considered foundational and is the first taught in most programs.
